Youth empowerment in Bel Ombre: Launch of the Bouze Zenes program

Project Overview

Bouze Zenes is a pioneering social programme funded by Heritage Villas Valriche and implemented by Rogers Foundation. It aims to empower youth of Bel Ombre and the surrounding regions including Baie du Cap, St Martin, Rivière des Galets, and Choisy.
This holistic programme, targeting youth aged 13 to 24, made possible with the help of two of our subsidiaries operating in Bel Ombre- Agrïa and Rogers Hospitality and conducted in partnership with esteemed non-governmental organizations (NGOs)—Lovebridge, PILS, DRIP, Active Mauritius, and JA Mascareignes. The program focuses on three key areas:

•    Personal development: Encouraging participants to grow personally and socially.
•    Sports participation and fitness: Exploring new sports and promoting regular physical activities to enhance fitness.
•    Employability skills: Focusing on job retention, workplace readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy to enhance career prospects.

Alignment with Rogers's Strategic S&ID Framework

Bouze Zenes aligns seamlessly with Rogers' strategic focus, as outlined in its Sustainability and Inclusive Development Framework. Specifically, the programme supports two of the framework's five pillars: inclusive development and vibrant communities. This alignment underscores the commitment to fostering a sustainable and inclusive future for the Bel Ombre region.

Tracking progress (Key Performance Indicators):

As the effectiveness and impact of the Bouze Zenes programme, a set of key performance indicators (KPIs) is used to track both immediate engagement and long-term outcomes. Below are some key figures that underscore the achievements and the positive impact of our efforts:

•    Vibrant youth engagement: More than 100 young individuals have participated in the programme, demonstrating strong community enthusiasm and a keenness to learn and grow.
•    Diverse learning workshops: The programme offers more than ten dynamic workshops catering to a variety of interests and developmental needs.
•    Expert partnerships: The involvement of renowned NGOs ensures that the sessions are delivered with expertise and tailored to effectively meet the needs of the youth.

The focus extends beyond immediate outcomes, aiming to create lasting, meaningful change in the lives of the participants. This progress will be tracked using several key metrics:

•    Increased self-reported emotional well-being,
•    Improved physical health,
•    Enhanced employment rates after the programme.

Looking ahead

As the Bouze Zenes programme continues to foster growth and development in the Bel Ombre community, upcoming opportunities are set to further enhance the skills and well-being of the participants. Sporting events organised by Active Mauritius will be maintained, promoting physical health and encouraging teamwork in a supportive environment.

Conclusion

Bouze Zenes represents a significant step towards empowering the youth of Bel Ombre and fostering sustainable community development. By focusing on personal development, sports participation and fitness, and employability, the programme aims to create a positive and lasting impact in the region.
